Troop 1 Parents Meeting

Monday August 4, 2003

PRESENT:  Al Degenhardt, Bruce Demsky, Dana Jenson, Chris Klaren

OLD BUSINESS:

1) Review/approve previous meeting minutes – the minutes were approved.

2) Treasure's report - Currently the troop account is approximately $500, with another $800 in the scouts’ individual accounts.

3) Review activities for last month:

3.a) Rank Advancements – 6 scouts advanced to the Star rank last month, they are:  Mike Berns, Alex Cook, Jake Demsky, Nick Jenson, Josh Kneeland, and Dan Murphy.  Congratulations, and we hope you continue to learn, grow, and have fun in your journey in scouting.  In addition, a number of merit badges were earned (more than 25), many of them from our recent trip to Camp Phillips.

During last meeting’s Court of Honor, Al noted that in the last 12 months 35 rank advancements, 114 merit badges, and 18 special awards (50 Mile Afloat, etc.) were earned by Troop 1 scouts.  Way to go guys!

4) Review scheduled activities for current month:

4.a) Pop can fundraiser, Labor Day weekend – Dana indicated that we are still planning the fundraiser.  We will distribute fliers prior to the Labor Day weekend, then pick up the returnable containers the Saturday after Labor Day.

4.b) Al has camping information from Adventureland and will get with the scouts at the next meeting to see if a Labor Day weekend campout would work for the troop.

4.c) Order of the Arrow Fall Fellowship August 22-24 – Al, the Ordeal inductees, and Brotherhood candidates should plan to attend, as well as other current OA members that can make it.  Ordeal candidates need to pay Dana Jenson $45 as soon as possible for their OA initiation fee that was paid by the troop.

5) Campouts & activities for upcoming year – deferred until next meeting to let Al get with the scouts.

6) Ad Altare Dei update – the paperwork has been turned in, and Steve and Dana are working to set up a date so that all of the Board of Reviews can be held at the same time, probably a Sunday evening.

NEW BUSINESS:

1) X-treme Winnebago activities – District leadership is asking for help from the troops in the district to run 3 activities during the all-council Camporee.  2-3 volunteers from a number of troops are needed to help for 90 minutes at one of three activities at various times in the morning or afternoon.  Al will ask the older scouts if they are available, otherwise we will find 2 or 3 troop adults to help out.  Al will coordinate this with the district.
