Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by Chris Klaren

2) Present:  Al & Bev Degenhardt, Steve Davis, Faye Graham, Dana Jenson, Greg Kent, Chris Klaren, Tim Klein, Francis & Becky McElroy, Michelle Westphal

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes - approved

4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster

·        Scouts were reassigned to patrols in the troop, mixing the 2nd year and older Scouts.  The new Scouts from crossover are assigned to the Wolverines patrol to help them get established in their first year of Scouting.  Troop elections were held last month with the Scouts selecting new patrol leaders and assistant senior patrol leader.  Nick Davis will be the new Senior Patrol leader for the next 6 months.

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Red Flannel campout Feb 11-12, Camp Ingawanis – Just about as many adults as Scouts, mild weather conditions that met the criteria of 24 hours less than 32 degrees F.  Great weekend.

·        Troop campout March 11-12 – Camp Ingawanis, leaving Saturday at 7:30 AM.

·        Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Luke Jenson & Josh Musgrave, March 26, 2:00 PM.  Planning for rehearsal on Saturday, March 25, at 1:30 or 2:00 PM.

·        Scouting for Needs bag distribution, April 1, food pickup April 8.  Chris K will check with Pack 25 to coordinate bag drop-off in the Kimball, 4th St, Ansborough, Ridgeway “triangle”.  April campout may be rescheduled to another weekend.

·        Summer camp 2006, Camp Phillips, July 2-8 – The week has been reserved.  Everyone, Scouts and adults, should be making plans to attend.  We had a great time 3 years ago.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities – no report

·        Merit Badge University, UNI, Feb 18 - 17 Scouts registered, 12 attended, a number of badges earned.

·        Sun Rivers Eagle orientation, March 9, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM, Hammond Ave Church of the Brethren, Waterloo – Highly recommended for Star & Life Scouts expecting to reach Eagle in the next year.

·        Chaplain

·        Ad Altare Dei update – no report

·        Training coordinator

·        Jim O’Connor led an orientation session for the parents of the new Scouts.

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed update – Artists renditions were available to view (check out the scanned image on the web site at http://troop1waterloo.org/1/Misc/shed.jpg).  We have approval from the St. Ed’s Buildings & Grounds Committee, trying to determine if the Booster Club will be donating funds.  Currently getting building costs from several sources.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraisers report, Feb 25 – 32 large bags, lots of bottles, expecting about $400 total.  Steve D reported that no phone calls were made yet there was lots of help.  Next collection March 25, Ravens & Wolverines to staff.

·        Wreath sales final report - $2700 sales, $770 profit.  70% of profit has been allocated to 21 Scouts that sold wreaths, the other 30% into the troop general fund.

·        Flapjacker pancake breakfast ticket sales, HyVee Feb 11 & 18 – 429 total tickets sold (this includes tickets not sold at HyVee).  Expect profits to be down from past years as pancake mix and syrup was not donated.  Al will be the Flapjacker chairman next year, and Greg Kent will be the troop rep to the Flapjackers.

·        Flapjacker pancake breakfast, March 4 -

·        Membership coordinator

·        Cub Scout Crossover, Feb 12 – 6 new Scouts crossed-over from Pack 25 in February.  Welcome! 

·        Other membership news – New Scout Austin Cousins joined the troop last month.  Welcome!

5) Old Business

·        Pancake breakfast fundraiser at Knights of Columbus, Sunday, May 21 – the date has been confirmed, and profits will be used to pay travel expenses for the trip to Camp Phillips this summer.

6) New Business

·        Troop charter renewal – to be processed in March/April.  2006/2007 registration is $10 per Scout, $10 per registered adult, and Boy’s Life subscriptions are $12 each.

·         

7) Announcements

·        Next parents meeting Monday, April 3, 2006 at The Upper Deck, food available at 6:30, meeting starts at 7:00 PM
