Troop 1 Parents Meeting Minutes

1) Meeting called to order (Steve Murphy)

2) Attending: Dana Jensen, Kirk Brownson, Jon Bunge, Michelle Westphall, Lisa Musgrave, John Beyer, Al Degenhardt, Steve Davis, Steve Murphy, Mike Potter, Bill Ludwig, Drew Beyer

3) Approved previous meeting minutes

4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster - none

·        Secretary - none

·        Treasurer – Total $9,521.90 (general fund $5,554.50, Scoutmaster Fund $144.44, Shed Account $1,285.64, Scouts Accounts $2,537.32)

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Canoe outing/campout report, May 18-19 – Al Degenhardt reported 22 Scouts and Adults participated.  Special appreciation to Dana’s parents for hospitality.

·        Troop Campout, June 8-10 - cancelled

·        Boundary Waters trip, June 16-23    23 Participants expected, Mike Potter to acquire hats for trip.  Pancake breakfast failed to meet financial goals.  June 2 pop can drive netted approx. $300 (26 bags, 1,000 bottles) Mike Potter arranging transportation to be donated by Community Motors.

·        Summer Camp July 8-14 - 17 Scouts registered.  Adult leaders are needed. Organizational meeting scheduled June 10.  Mike Potter, coordinator.

·        Eagle Claw Aug 4-12 – Drew Beyer and Alex Potter are attending. Troop has majority of needed equipment.  50% of cost covered by troop if Senior Scouts meet troop participation requirements.

·                          Advancement coordinator – no report

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed – Estimates being obtained for signage and donor recognition.  Dedication cook-out planned for late summer, date to be determined.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraiser, May 12 report – 29 bags, ? bottles,  June 2 = 26 bags, 1000 bottles, Next pop can drive July 7 planned.  Rick Westphall has donated signage for drop-off site.

·        Sturgis Falls Adult Beverage Pour sign-up, June 23 – Dana Jensen is coordinating.  Need volunteers!

5) Old Business

·        RAGBRAI plans for Cycling merit badge recipients – Camp in Cedar Falls July 25, ride to Independence and camp in Independence July 26, ride to Dyersville and return to Waterloo July 27.  Scouts encouraged to do local trips in preparation.  For questions, contact Al Degenhardt.

·        High adventure activities - Sea Base 2008 to Florida, cost estimate is $500-$700 per Scout.  Informational meeting will be scheduled after summer camp.  Philmont 2009 – Scout must be 14 January 1st of year going to Philmont.  Cost estimate $800-$900 per Scout.

·        National Jamboree, July 2010 – 100th Anniversary of Scouting in USA

6) New Business

·        Drew Beyer presented Eagle Project Report.  Excellent presentation.  Received approval from committee and was complimented on the exceptional demonstration of leadership skills and quality of project.

7) Announcements

·        Next parents meeting Monday, July 2, 2007 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM
