Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order (Jon Beyer)

2) Attending: Jon Beyer, Angie Breuer, Rick Breuer, Steve Davis, Al Degenhardt, Faye Graham, Dana Jensen, Bill Ludwig, Greg Kent, Chris Klaren, Tim Klein, Francis McElroy, Lisa Musgrave, Jim O’Connor, Mike Potter, Michelle Westphal, Rick Westphal

3) Approved previous meeting minutes

4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster – Troop elections will be held at the next meeting.  The first patrol leaders meeting will be held Aug 26 to plan campouts for the upcoming year, and Assistant Scoutmasters need to attend.  An Assistant Scoutmasters will be assigned to each patrol, with 2-3 assigned to the New Scouts Patrol.
     The troop will set up a Tenderfoot to First Class program within the troop, similar to the Trail to Eagle offered at summer camps.  Adults will be asked to sign up for campouts to insure adequate leadership is available.
     Regular Scout meetings will begin Sep 9, and Class A uniform shirts are to be worn.

·        Secretary - none

·        Treasurer - Total $5,827.91 (general fund $2,500.32, Scoutmaster Fund $95.45, Shed Account $1,285.64, Scouts Accounts $1,946.50)

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Summer Camp July 16-23 report – The weather was hot during setup but moderated as the week went on.  Could have used 4 more leaders to help primarily with the new Scouts.  Scouts seemed to have fun during the week.

·        Eagle Claw Aug 3-12 – Drew Beyer and Alex Potter left Sunday night for the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming and will return Aug 12.  The group that returned the week before reported they had a great experience.

·        Troop campout, Aug 10-12 – Adventureland campout, will leave Friday night and camp in the Adventureland campground, go to Adventureland on Saturday, and return Sunday before noon.  Cost and travel details can be found on the web site or from the patrol leaders.

·        Fall Camporee, George Wyth, Sep 28-30.  Troop is making plans to attend.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities – 61 merit badges and 2 rank advancements were earned in the month prior to Aug 5.

·        New Troop 1 Eagle Scout, Robert Pedersen completed his Board of Review June 19.  Congratulations Bobby on reaching this great accomplishment!

·        Chaplain

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed – Signage, appreciation cookout update – scheduling of dedication cookout pending completion of the donor signage.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraiser, Aug 4 report – the collection did well considering the rainy weather, approx. 26 bags of cans and over 1000 bottles.  Next collection Sep 8.

·        Popcorn sales plan – no report

·        Wreath sales - Arvella and Greg Kent will be coordinating again this year.

·        Membership coordinator – Mike Potter and Jon Beyer will work with Sacred Heart to determine interest in starting a Cub Pack.  Francis McElroy will work with Webelos at Pack 528 at Blessed Sacrament to keep them up to date on Troop 1 opportunities.

5) Old Business

·        RAGBRAI plans for Cycling merit badge recipients, July 26-28, report – canceled

·        High adventure activities, update on Sea Base 2008 – attending Scouts will need to be 14 at the time of the trip and pass the BSA swim test, although the troop may require the Swimming merit badge.  Fees average $675 per participant, with the actual varying according to the trip selected.  Scouts and adults need to start this planning now for a 2008 trip.  Travel costs will be extra.

·        High adventure activities, update on Philmont 2009 – Information for 2009 has not yet been finalized from the council.  Registration and total cost information should be available in a month or two.

·        National Jamboree, July 2010 – registration is open NOW.  Although there are no age restrictions, Scouts must be First Class rank by the time of the jamboree.  Costs are expected to be about $1600 per Scout.  The council offers a special rebate on popcorn sales to help pay expenses.  Forms will be brought to the next Scout meeting.  Sign up now to make sure you are with the Sun Rivers contingent troop.

6) New Business

·        Merit Badge College, Nov 3, pre-registration needed by Sep 21.  12-13 have already signed up, the sooner Scouts sign up, the better chance they will have to get their first choice merit badge classes.  UNI Merit Badge University information in February will be shared with the Scouts when information becomes available.

·        St. Ed’s Fall Festival – Scouts will coordinate parking on Sep 16 (believe the date was moved up this year), and with setup the day before.

·        UAW Labor Day picnic – Local 838 has asked the troop for 8-10 Scouts and 2 leaders to help during their annual Labor Day picnic.  $450 has been offered to the troop for helping, and the troop will be able to collect all of the cans.

7) Announcements

·        Next parents meeting Monday, September 10, 2007 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM

·        Mike Potter is collecting Boundary Water hats at the next meeting (Aug 19) to be embroidered.
