Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by Jon Beyer

2) Attending:  Kevin Andriano; Jon Beyer; Michelle Boswell; Al Degenhardt; Faye Graham; Andy Herman; Dana Jenson; Greg Kent; Tim Klein; Francis McElroy; Steve Davis

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes – approved

4) Reports:

·         Scoutmaster

·         Secretary

·         Treasurer – $6,669.99 (General Fund $2,445.50, Scoutmaster Fund $1423.13, Shed Account $480.93, Scout Accounts $2,320.43).
Outdoor/activities coordinator

·         Backbone State Park campout, Sep 27-28, report.  Great time, great outing.

·         St. Ed’s church basement setup, Fri Sep 26, Sat Oct 4.  Went fast and well, received compliments from St. Ed’s.

·         St. Ed’s Fall Festival, setup Oct 11, parking Oct 12.  Setup and parking were well attended.  New parking system worked out well.

·         Scouting for Food, bag distribution Oct 18, food pickup Oct 25.  Work with cub scouts to let them hand out bags Oct 18th, Scouts pick up Oct 25th.

·         Pine Lake campout, Oct 25-26.  Cancelled due to lack of adult participants and numerous scout items on that weekend.

·         Electronics / Work Weekend campout, Ingawanis, youth leadership training, Nov 15-16 – planning underway.

·         Advancement coordinator

·         Advancement activities – one Life rank advancement the past month, congratulations Drew Klein!

·         Merit Badge College, Nov 1 – All merit badge books have been distributed and pre req’s communicated.  Group will meet at the school on Nov 1 at 7:15 AM and leave for Hawkeye at 7:30.

·         Chaplain

·         David Ticknor is the new Chaplain’s Aide for the troop.

·         Religious awards – no report

·         Training coordinator

·         Equipment coordinator - 2 new grills purchased and they work ok, still need 1 new 2-burner stove.

·         Fundraising coordinator

·         Pop can collection fundraiser, next collection Oct 18, 9:00 to noon.  Next scheduled dates are Nov 29 and Jan 3.

·         UNI Dome concessions – concessions are going great and Scout earnings are very good.  Contact Francis abut helping at Sat Oct 19 UNI football game, Nov 9 Pop Warner football (2 sessions), Sat Nov 22 high school football championships all day, and Nov 25 5:00 PM at the McCloud Center.

·         Fall popcorn sales – no troop sales as most Scouts are selling for jamboree funds.

·         Wreath sales update - Arvella is preparing forms.  We will sell at St. Ed’s and Sacred Heart the same weekend.  We need to work with CVCS and each parish to get into bulletins.  Discussion on money split:  the troop is in good shape, and there are major trips coming up, so the Scouts will earn 100% of profit.

·         Pancake breakfast troop fundraiser, Jan 18.  We need to work with CVCS and each parish to get information into bulletins and school express envelopes.

·         Membership coordinator – 1 new Scout has transferred from the council Eagle Claw Venturing Crew.

·         Round Table Update – no update

5) Old Business

·         Parent sign-up calendar, update – going well

·         Activity slips, update – Nick Mills is working with Francis on a plan to distribute slips for attendance feedback.

·         Boundary Waters, summer 2009 – no report

·         High adventure activities, update on Sea Base 2009.  A meeting is being scheduled for the parents.

·         National Jamboree, July 2010, update – The UNI foundry will be making special commemorative coins to trade.  Some other discussion on a dutch oven or lid from UNI foundry to sell for Jamboree.

6) New Business

·         St. Ed’s Trunk or Treat – Sat. Oct 25 after 5:15 mass.

·         Day of week for troop meetings - Al will work with Chris on a survey for 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3 choice, 4th choice meeting nights.  Parents will need to look at their Scout’s schedules and sports, as well as determine most and least favorable nights for parent involvement.

·         Service project requests from St. Edwards Church – Group discussion on recent short lead requests from St. Ed’s to set up the church basement.  Not all Scouts are from St. Ed’s, but we want high visibility with the sponsoring organization.  We need to make sure we do not get in over our heads due to the age of our scouts and demands on them.

·         TroopMaster DotNet renewal – on-line record storage to use with the TroopMaster software has been renewed for 3 years.

·         Trailer – Dana will purchase a new 12 volt battery and charger so that a charged battery is always in the trailer.

7) Announcements                             

·         Next parents meeting Monday, November 17, 2008 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:00 PM.  Note earlier winter starting time.

8) Adjournment - Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned.
